Design
Team
Our design
team brings many years of experience along with their sketchbooks,
shovels and shrubs! Combined they have over 75 years of experience
in the business. When planned with imagination and skillfully
installed, any area can be created into a paradise to bring pleasure
to all who visit. Meet with one of our designers for an initial
landscape consultation. For a fee of $150, one of our designers
will meet with you to do a quick site analysis, gather pertinent
information, and provide a sketch (not to scale) with plant suggestions
and/or written recommendations. Design master plans (based on
your survey plats) are available based on project size, scope
and time at a rate of $75 per hour. Call our Landscape Administrator,
Dianne Duvall, at 301-770-7729 ext. 13 to schedule an appointment
with one of our designers:
Marlene
Bessel received her certification from the Landscape
Architects Assistant Program at George Washington University in
1981 and is a Maryland Certified Professional Horticulturist.
She began working in the nursery in 1981 while owner/operator
of her own landscape design company from 1981 to 1989. Marlene's
designs specialize in woodland shade gardens and large scale mixed
shrub and perennial borders.
Haynes
Davis holds a B.S. in Landscape Architecture from Virginia
Tech and is a Maryland Certified Professional Horticulturist. He
operated his own design/build landscape company from 1990 to 1999
and has been in the landscape field for over 18 years. Haynes has
worked with American Plant for over four years and currently fills
the position of Landscape Coordinator for the Landscape Division.
Donna Evans
has 28 years experience in the horticulture industry. She graduated
from University of Maryland, College Park in 1982 with a BS in
Ornamental Horticulture & Design. For the past 18 years, she
has owned and operated her own landscape design/build company.
Donna's design philosophy has two main areas of focus: first is
her passion for plants and knowledge of their growth habits; second
is the idea that landscapes are extensions of individual personalities
and vision, and should be consistent with the style of the house
as well as the homeowner. The results of this philosophy are beautiful,
creative, exciting, harmonious and functional.
Pat Wainwright
brings a strong eye for design into her landscapes. She has been
a landscape designer for over 10 years, studying at the National
Arboretum and Brookside Gardens. She is a member of the Landscape
Design Consultants in the National Capital Federation of Garden
Clubs. Pat enjoys creating outdoor rooms as well as container
gardens.
Installation
Team
Our Plant Installation
manager is Tony Lightbourne, an American Plant
staff member since 1989. Tony's years of experience, excellence
in customer service and attention to detail will ensure a pleasurable
working relationship as we create your new garden space. Tony is
assisted by the stellar landscape team of Erik Shorb, Demetrio
Sanchez, Juan Arrarte, Antonio Argueta and Robert
Sollitto.
Our planting and home consultation
staff is experienced and dedicated to making your garden renovation
whether large or small a pleasant experience. Please contact us
for rates and to discuss your garden situation. Our goal is to
fit our home service to your needs.
Arrangements for plant installation
of plant material purchased at one of our garden centers may be
made at the registers. The basic fee for planting — which
covers delivery, planting, proper soil amendments, small mulch
ring (if applicable) and a two year guarantee — is 60% of
the cost of the plant material with a $150 minimum charge for
labor. Any additional labor — to remove existing plants,
to sod, dig beds, prune, etc. — will be charged at a rate
of $150 per hour for a 3 man crew.
